I am honored to win the The Oklahoma Writer's Federation, Inc. 2011 Best Book of Poetry Award
for Oklahoma Cantos.
My new book, Oklahoma Cantos, was selected as a finalist in the 2011 Oklahoma Book Awards
but the winner was Benjamin Myers Elegy for Trains, an excellent work by an excellent poet.
Pulitzer Prize winner N. Scott Momaday was among the finalists who didn't win in 2010 so I'm at
least in good company, and Howard Starks, my mentor lost in 1997. It was my honor to be a
finalist for the second time in five years. Guess I'll have to win it next year, huh? LOL
I read Saturday, April 2nd, in Estep Auditorium at the Scissortail Writer's Festival at East Central
University in Ada, Oklahoma just before the Grand Finale with Ms. Billie Letts reading right after
me. My buddy, Chuck Ladd read earlier that morning from Howard Starks' book Family Album .
Ken Hada always hosts a great festival, can't wait for next year.

Great write up in The Durant Daily Democrat Sunday December 6th, 2009: Tiara Blue did an
excellent job. Only my own communication skills left a need for a couple of corrections. My most
excellent publisher Jim Furber at TJMFPublishing isn't mentioned and he's chiefly responsible
for all my books in print so far. My scholarship offer was at Carl Albert JC rather than
Southeastern, but I like the idea of a SE Baseball scholarship so I may keep that in the bio.
